Our Story:

In the summer of '94, two of El Paso, Texas' most popular underground bands met their demise. From those ashes, at the drive-in was born. The concept was simple; record records, tour on those records and put little, overlooked El Paso on the rock-n-roll map. Fast forward to the present, as 1998 begins to warm up, the boys have already achieved more than they imagined. The explosive, emotion-soaked live shows that the band is now known for weren't really planned. These young men just don't know any other way.
A brief history...
Nov. '94, the band's first 7" "Hell Paso" (Western Breed) was released on the band's own label. The following month, the band trekked 2,000 miles across the great state of Texas on their very first tour.

In June of '95, after a member change, ATDI's second single, "Alfaro Vive, Carajo" (Western Breed), showed the progress the band made in such a short time. An '81 Ford Econoline was purchased and the band hopped in and headed out on a 42 day 10,000 mile US tour. People began to take notice, friends were made.

One of those friends went, along with other Flipside staffers, to eyewitness them explode in front of 9 people in a now defunct LA bar. They liked the band so much that they offered to put out their record that night. So, ATDI headed out again for a 21 day Southwest tour that ended in LA, where they recorded "Acrobatic Tenement" (Flipside), a blistering outpouring of youthful energy and feelings rarely explored by other bands of any genre.

In the months following, the permanent line-up fell into place, and as soon as the record hit the stores, the band hit the road for a 100 day 24,000 mile US tour that included shows with Screw 32, J Church, AFI, Still Life, Mustard Plug, Face to Face, Cosmic Psychos and hundreds of others. Their following began to swell.

The band took a month off before it began rehearsing for the next record/tour. "El Gran Orgo" (Offtime), a six-song CDEP, was realesed on 9/18/97 and showed a more melodic side of the band, but the musical depth and heartfelt emotion was never more apparent. Two days later the band was in Boulder, CO playing one of the two shows with Welt, kicking off a 35 day/11,000 mile tour that also included six dates with Karp and the Young Pioneers, and one-offs with Guttermouth, The Criminals, Piss Drunks, and the Humpers. Headlining shows in the midwest, the band is drawing between 100-350 kids. The crowds literally double each time the band returns to a town. The word of mouth is unbelievable, the live show a sight to be seen.

It's time for you to find out why El Paso's best kept secret definitely isn't so secret anymore...

the best band ever is an understatement for these dudes. acrobatic tenement gives me chills on a regular basis, command and casino are definately close runner ups- if only command wasn't so over engineered...

  2. Lahoya says...

Relationship is one of the best albums made!

  3. Jake says...

Vaya is definitely my favorite album, but not to take away from any of their other brilliant albums. It's to bad I never got to see them live.

  4. Danny says...

I wish this band would bet back together for some shows again. Mars volta is my favorite now, but these albums will still never leave my car stereo. I will buy just for the bonus tracks on this album

  5. Haley says...

  6. trey says...

The bonus tracks on this album are awesome. I can see the hints and foreshadowing that went in the direction of the mars volta. Great album!!!!!!!
