Derek James, "New York’s newest musical firecracker" (Relevant Magazine), is pleasantly ironic and stuffed to the max with artistic spunk. Their music "brings the party" with catchy pop/rock hooks, a character soaked in eclectic NYC flavor with Beatle-esque production. Derek's musical canvas is at once a streak of vintage icons, at other times shades of contemporary flavor, but primarily, a whole lotta fresh charisma.
After beginning his career in the streets and clubs of Europe, 23-year-old James returned to New York in June of 2004 to record his debut album, Stray. Working with Nir Z (John Mayer, Genesis) on drums, Godfrey Diamond (Aerosmith, Lou Reed) mixing, and up-and-coming producers Assaf Spector and Eytan Oren, 11 tracks made the final cut released on May 26th, 2005.
The 5-piece live band; Derek (guitar/lead vocals), Aaron Nevezie (Ambulance / TVT Records) (guitar), Tom Welsch (bass), Bruno Coviello (keys) and former Lizzy West (Warner Bros.) drummer/guitarist Gilbert Gilmore, put on an energized, crowd-bobbing live show.
