After a freak accident left Michael Brouillet (lead vocals) unable to speak for over 6 weeks and facing a possible throat surgery, he realized his music and life needed to take a more purposeful direction. In this period of silent retrospection he was filled with the frustration to create. After recovering, Brouillet combined his vocal and keyboard talents with G-Smiles’ funk guitar, BJ's beats, and Fernando’s slap-happy bass to form Dog Men Poets.
Most often compared to Red Hot Chili Peppers, G-Love, Floetry, or more creatively Beck’s best cover of a Beastie Boys jam, the Dog Men Poets have continued to control their sound while creating meaningful as well as playful music. Dog Men Poets upbeat vibe is an eclectic mix of old school flavor and youthful enthusiasm. With sweet harmonies over pointed lyrics, Dog Men Poets quickly created a buzz and "established themselves as one of the hottest new live acts throughout the South." (Jason Gossard, San Antonio Current)
Drive, determination and savage optimism are the cornerstones of the Dog Men Poets’ family philosophy. They single handedly put their single “Anthem” (from their debut album Birth of the Cool) on over 110 radio stations, with their fans enthusiasm and support propelling them to ten Top 25 listings. Dog Men Poets have also been recognized as “Best Band" by San Antonio Current 2006, “Top 5 Bands to Watch in 2006” by Feedback Magazine, “Best Rock Band” by Study Breaks Magazine 2006, and “Best Party Band 2006” by Edge Magazine. Their debut album "Birth of the Cool" was nominated as My Texas Music’s “Texas Indie Album of the Year” and San Antonio Current's “Best Album of the Year.”
For the release of their sophomore album “Down for the Cause”, Dog Men Poets mix their spoken word slam poetry roots, funk guitar, and up-tempo groove to create a sound described as “shameless, exciting, revolutionizing, and fun.” (S. McDonald, Tasty Magazine) Think Henry Rollins meets Edgar Allan Poe meets Che Guevara. And that’s who you’ll find at a Dog Men Poets show.
The Dog Men Poets have opened for such name acts as Fall Out Boy, Paul Wall, Black Eyed Peas, Blink 182, KC & The Sunshine Band, Fishbone, Grand Funk Railroad, and Dave Mathews.

who'd have thought??!!
Laidback and fun. Those who enjoy the likes of Gorillaz will appreciate a taste of Birth of the Cool for a change of pace.
Imagine Red Hot Chili Peppers involved in a project with George Clinton and Beck and we have a band that really grooves like hell to be honest. A perfect album to party to!
Saw these guys at Bayfest and they rocked. Love them and the CD is KILLER!!!!
