Our Story:

At the dawn of 2006 we witnessed the birth of a new Bulgarian music solo-project. The word goes about Geppy – an "electro-ethno-rock" formation led by its ideologist, founder and name-giver, Mr. Gospodin Gospodinov a.k.a. Geppy.

Born in the Bulgarian town Shumen on May 16th, 1969, the talented musician studied at the local high school and started his active career at the sаme time, during the mid-80’s, when he formed the rock quartet Lud Gidiya. Meanwhile he played together with the Bulgarian National Army Ensemble and a few more regional troupes as well, including the Shumen City Theater Band. Soon afterwards Geppy participated in plenty of renowned international music festivals, a. o. White Nights Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia, and Discovery Fest in Varna, Bulgaria, where he won the Best Live Performance Award in 1992.

This same year saw Geppy and Lud Gidiya moving to Bulgaria’s capital Sofia. That’s when he also stared working as a sound engineer at the local Graffiti Studio – a job which resulted in producing tons of music, including “I Can’t Stop Loving You” – the first ever hit single by today’s pop music kings of Bulgaria D_2.

Two years later, in 1994, Lud Gidiya changed their name. Thus Stain was born – a band that remained in the history of Bulgaria’s contemporary rock music for its avant-garde alternative sound and explosive club shows, the smash hit "The Night" which won the Song of the Year award of both the national music channel MM TV and The New Rhythm Music Magazine in 1998, as well as for the cult-labeled debut album "Merging" (© 2000 AveNew Productions). Unfortunately, the release last mentioned marked the beginning of the end for Stain (the trio disbanded in 2002), but, on the other hand, it led to the founding of Stain Studio – Geppy’s own sound and video recording studio where he’s been working day and night for 6 years now. During this time he produced dozens of albums by bands like Stain, Ostava, Fandango, Cigaretta, Sepuko 6, Crowfish, Last Hope, Fyeld, Matakka, Kuln, etc. Geppy also shot many music videos for a. o. B.T.R., Hypodil, Nettie, Svetla Ivanova, Te, Ostava, Fyeld… And besides working on music projects, Stain Studio got also known for creating high quality TV and radio advertising spots for various leading local companies such as Eurofootball and Bulbank, just to mention a few.

Anyway, let’s focus on our main character and his artistic development. Parallel to his work at Stain Studio, after his band Stain split up Geppy took over the bass duties in the local alternative rock quintet Matakka and released the album "Orange" in 2003. A bit later he worked with Bulgaria’s pop music leaders D_2 again, and co-wrote the music and the vocal parts for some of their newest songs, including the current hit single “Here and Now” and the group’s first tune produced by the American musician, songwriter and producer Lanny Cordola who has worked with stars like Cypress Hill, Velvet Revolver, Ozzy Osbourne, etc.

In the very end of 2005 another idea came to Geppy‘s mind – to form a new band of his own. Thus the electro-ethno-rock solo-project mentioned in the first lines of this story saw the light of day. Geppy‘s first composition is also a fact already. Its title is "A Matter of Time", the music and arrangements should be credited to the project’s mastermind himself, while the lyrics (written by I. Alokin & Velissa V.) treat the senseless "stardom" that obsesses most of the one-hit wonders in our contemporary society...

As for the recordings of "A Matter of Time", they took place at Stain Studio from December 2005 to January 2006 under the guidance of Geppy and Desso Veltchev, both being responsible for the final mix and mastering of the sound as well.

"A Matter of Time" was recorded by Geppy (responsible for all the vocals, synthesizers and programming), backed by his former Stain colleagues and current Gravity Co. members Ivo Tchalakov (guitar) and Stefan Popov (drums), plus half of D_2‘s line-up – Dimitar Karnev (guitar), Alexander Obretenov (bass) and Yavor Alexandrov (drums). Grisha Georgiev, ex-frontman of the already disbanded neo-metal quintet Matakka, helped out with a kettle-drum, while the traditional Bulgarian bagpipe wizard Svetlyo Zhilev, whose album "Wild Stories" was produced by Geppy and released by Stain Studio in 2004, contributed to the melody with his Rhodopean bagpipe, incorporating a touch of ancient Bulgarian folklore in the catchy rhythm of "A Matter of Time".

Geppy has decided to use different studio musicians for the recordings of each single to follow. As for the project’s concert shows, Geppy shall be joined on stage by guitar player Boyan “Bobz” Genov of the local rock band Fyeld, and Grisha Georgiev (ex-Matakka) on drums and kettle-drum.

Regarding the very near future, what’s been planned so far is shooting a video for "A Matter of Time", rehearsals and, of course, work on new songs for Geppy’s forthcoming full-length debut album.
