Singer and songwriter Glenn Eliot’s latest CD Side Ways, released by Herd of Music, l.l.c., features the songs “Sister Sanity,” “L.A.,” “Elvis’ Son” and “Chiggy Child,” and is a blend of folk and rock sounds. A native of Houston, Texas, Eliot sites the likes of James Taylor and the Motown sound as some of his musical influences. He has been playing acoustic guitar and writing music for over 10 years and has performed with and without a band, and he recently opened for Sister Hazel, Virginia Coalition and Gavin Degraw at the Engine Room in Houston.
Eliot first became interested in music as a young child. “My mom always had music on in the morning getting ready for school and at night while cooking dinner,” he says. His family reunions also revolved around playing guitars and singing both old and new songs from “Grandma’s Feather Bed” to Doobie Brothers hits.
Eliot loves to perform, but he especially loves writing songs. He says, “I love to play with words like ingredients in a recipe for emotional cake.” Although he wants to perform, he doesn’t mind the idea of writing songs for other artists. “Sure, I’d like to be a pop-star,” Eliot says, “but I really just want to make good records that have value and will have value beyond my years.”
