I, Octopus is instrumental, experimental rock from New Orleans, LA. Unlike other bands of the genre, many of their songs are vehicles for improvisation, creating an unique and intimate live show experience that redefines itself at each performance. They love to create sonic soundscapes that range from punk rock recklessness, teetering on the edge of chaos to calm, relaxing lullabies. Their music has been compared to many great bands such as: Explosions in the Sky, Mogwai, and Pink Floyd to name but a few.
Formed in 2000 by current members, Michael Lentz and Blake Lewis, along with Matt Aguiliz (ex-Rotary Downs, A Living Soundtrack) on drums and Scott McManus on Keyboard. I, Octopus released their first EP 'Helping Others Help Themselves' in 2004 at the Nation Studios with producer Jay Crutti. Since then the band has acquired a new drummer, Jay Steigner, and a new guitarist Abdon Callais. With this current lineup they have recorded a new demo at Big Brown Studios by Dr. Jimbo Walsh.
They are currently working on a split recording with Metronome the City, a full length album, and playing as many shows as possible in NOLA and the surrounding areas.
