Joe Richardson’s resume of the past few years is as diverse as it is noteworthy. Both with and without his band, “the Express“, the list is long. Below are but a few examples. Previously, the Joe Richardson Express, have released three all original music recordings with the Austin, Texas label Viewpoint Records. This year they have just released their fourth all original music CD, “Non Stop”, on Jamey Slane Records, which is already being hailed as “their best yet”, in the US and internationally. “The Express” as many fans call them, have just returned from a whirlwind tour of France, Denmark, and the Czech Republic, with non-other than the “Father of Rock and Roll” Mr. Chuck Berry! Joe has lent his abilities too much of the high profile Austin TX talent. A few examples of this include; co-writing “Hundred Pounds of Pain” with Omar of Omar and the Howlers fame; Playing on the Anthem played for the passing of the Olympic Torch through Austin; Playing harp on the latest CD by Austin‘s hottest up-and-coming rock band, “The Big Nasty”. The Express participates in many festivals in the Austin area, as well as throughout the US. A couple of examples being Mardi Gras, Galveston and BikeFest 2003, opening for “Credence Clearwater” in Padre Island TX. They also have been a mainstay for years in the infamous 6th Street scene, which is responsible for giving Austin TX the name of “Live Music Capitol of the World”! Joe Richardson’s music can be found in a wide range of places, for instance, ”Killin’ in the Name of the Lord” will be featured in a Broadway musical. Four of his songs were selected for the soundtrack of the Vietnam War documentary, “In the Shadow of the Blade”. Also, the song “I’ve Seen the Devil” will appear in the soundtrack of the major motion picture “Townies”. His music has also been used on the educational program “Toxic Mold Solutions”, 2003. The CD “Addiction, Highs and Lows”, released by Janet Fisher and Goodnight Kiss Music, and this years Prism Awards also used a tune by Joe. Several terrific “Express” videos can be seen on the soon-to-be syndicated Austin Music Network.
Joe (vocals/guitar/harp)
Born in southern Louisiana's Atchafalaya River Delta, playing has been a way of life from an early age. At the age of 6 his grandfather gave him a guitar from a pawn shop, and he taught himself to play. Learning quickly and putting in untold hours of practice made it possible for Joe to start playing the clubs of south Louisiana at the young age of 13! Years of stage experience in many varied types of musical genres has allowed him to develop his unique and rather unorthodox style of writing and playing. Submerging himself totally in his music is what drives and has driven his very existence for as long as he can remember.
Richard Lamm (drums)
Richard Lamm is the drummer "extrardinaire" for the Express.Having been raised in and around Austin, Richard says he's been in too many Austin acts to think about. Richard has also done extensive road work both in the US and abroad.
John Wolfe (Bass)
Born and raised in Pittsburgh Pa., John learned the ropes under the strong blue collar, R&B/Soul influences of that area. After relocating to Florida, he worked with numerous touring bands from the blues label "King Snake Records". From Florida his touring took him, for a short stint, to the blues clubs of the Myrtle Beach S.C. area. Hearing about the music scene in Austin, John decided to give Texas a try in the spring of 2003, and the Express is glad he did!
