People are talking about Maggie Walters. They’re talking about her intriguing songs. They’re talking about her irresistible voice. And they’re talking about a remarkable debut record hat is confident, candid and catchy. It’s a record that commands respect and opens conversations.
Word-of-mouth has been Maggie Walters’ best friend since she came to Austin, Texas with little more than a guitar and an acoustic demo recorded in the bathroom of a dilapidated Chicago apartment. Some of Austin’s best-known musicians heard it and signed on to record a proper record. As Texas Music Magazine suggested, “genuine talent seeks its own level.”
The resulting record is Maggie Walters. Its arrival earlier this year was met with critical acclaim and a sold-out Cactus Café release party. It features 10 songs, all written by Walters. The 24-year old is backed on the album by a who’s who of Austin’s best-known musicians: including Chris Searles (Shawn Colvin), George Reiff (Chris Robinson), Bukka Allen (Jack Ingram), Jud Newcomb (The Resentments), and Brian Standefer (Alejandro Escovedo).
As satisfying as it is, Maggie Walters more than suggests this is only the beginning. And that’s something we suspect you’ll wind up wanting to tell someone else about.
