The bands intention since the beginning was to create music that breaks from the usual radio sounds. Mopa is trying to bring something new to Rock, breaking apart from all genres and styles that have slowly shaped music into what you hear nowadays on the radio. Mopa's music is hard but not metal, it's gentle but not soft, it's loud but not noise and its raw but not because of lack of maturity. It stays true to the emotion that stands behind each song and performer. Live shows are where the concept comes alive. Each song has a personality and is orchestrated with years of experience and mastery.
Mopa is lead by Pablo Gonzalez on vocals and rhythm guitar. Pablo has played shows in the US and South America. He brings forward a style influenced by Rock as well as South American ethnic music. Lead guitarist/vocals Mark Turk is a veteran of the Austin music scene and has performed at the Vans Warped Tour and Spring Break 2001 at Panama City Beach, FL. Mark's guitar playing moves its listeners filling every audible space with screaming solos and punchy riffs. On the bass guitar, Josh Warrens background as an all around musician adds Mopa a unique rhythmic and melodic low-end. Juan Carvajal was the missing ingredient. After the first show with him onstage MOPA acquired a new dimension in sound and stage presence. Bill Smith has played countless shows on the east coast and his talent on the drums has a hypnotic quality, which completes the bands purpose to rise to a higher level.
Mopa started in the end of 2003 when it's members found each other because they were all looking to form a band that would not settle with sounding good or "making it". Mopa's purpose is to set itself apart from the rest, but with pure, rich music. Mopa stays true to Rock but is not afraid to stir in innovative concepts and sounds constantly.

These guys rock. My friend Ted introduced me to them and I am looking forward to seeing them live soon when I come to Texas.
I ran into this band while on business in Austin. They have a unique sound that is of a higher quality than the untalented garbage on the radio today. I hope to see them play at Stubb's one day.
