Bassist Rene Ramos founded Ojo Del Sol in the spring of 2000 in Austin, Texas. That year, Rene produced and released the self-titled Ojo Del Sol 5-song CD.
In February of 2001, John Ardila (lead vocals & guitar) joined the group and the two began formulating the future style and direction of the band, which at times had as many as 10 players, including horns, keyboards, multiple percussionists and multiple lead vocalists.
In March of 2002, Ojo Del Sol performed in the South By Southwest Music Festival and Multi-Media Conference in Austin, Texas. April 2002 saw the release of Mediterraneo, their first fully produced CD effort, which established them as serious contenders in the tight Latin market developing in Austin.
By December of 2002, John and Rene had begun to realize the need to downsize the group for a number of reasons, not the least of which was a need to launch into new musical waters.
Rene and John wanted a more radio-friendly and commercial feel in their music that would incorporate the many styles reflected in their past musical experiences.
By reforming the group with Gino Macias (drums), Ron Tindle (guitar, keys & vocals) and Angel Villarreal (percussion), Ojo Del Sol combines rock, jazz, and R&B with an irresistible Latin back-beat. Hot guitars, smooth keys, creamy, yet powerful vocals and great, catchy hooks create a new and exciting style that’s destined to turn some heads and set some trends in the music industry!
Their first performance of 2003 was a successful radio broadcast on KUT 90.5 FM, a National Public Radio affiliate, simulcast all over the world on the Internet!
Within an hour of their performance, Ojo Del Sol was receiving e-mails from Los Angeles, San Jose and San Diego cheering them on!
Ojo Del Sol’s triumphant debut live-performance packed the Iron Cactus North, a very popular and up-scale Austin venue, with dancing and cheering fans, as well as conquered converts.
Ojo Del Sol has established the fact that, with their new music, presence, style and attitude, they are a winning team that’s going to go far toward winning the hearts, minds and souls of music lovers everywhere!

The vocals and instrumentation is excellent. I believe this group has compiled an outstanding recording.
No rip off...the band has re-grouped and yes changed the name. Yes, they have played with Del Castillo in Houston a couple of times and also in Dallas. I thought the shows were GREAT! Check out the website!
Is this some sort of rip-off of that band Acustyca that opened for Del Castillo a couple of weeks ago at Fitgerald's? DId they change their name or something?
