Our Story:

Stoneman has always been a diverse musician and songwriter. Allthough his roots are grounded by the funk/R&B/Hip-hop styles of South Central Los Angeles in California, his heart has always been moved by other styles such as Reggae, Jazz, Rock & Roll and fusion. Thus he is a producer/songwriter that produces a variety of styles. He's been active for over 30 years but his music is still fresh and correlates with today's successful styles. In the past two years he has had seventeen songs signed to publishing deals by a variety of European Publishers. In 2000 he was a finalist in the prestigious Unisong international songwriting contest. His song "Findlove.com" came in 4th place in the Hip-Hop/R&B category out of over 4,000 song entries worldwide. (see unisong.com for posted results) Stoneman is the general manager for Tower Of Stone Publishing/productions (ASCAP) in Northern California where he operates his own recording studio for production and demo purposes. Stoneman's musical evolution began at the young age of 8 when he and his brother (Glenn) decided to write a song in order to try to persuade a physically abusive adult relative from perpetrating the violence that the two brothers endured daily. They sang the song to their tormentor and it was so moving that they were not beaten that night. From then on Stoneman knew that his music could be a catalyst for positive change. Stoneman grew up on the mean streets of South Central Los Angeles in California. Although he was caught up in the street gang culture he still continued to grow musically and he performed with various singing groups at various events and venues. After a tour in Viet Nam Stoneman returned to Los Angeles where he continued to write and hone his skills while performing and playing in various neighborhood bands. He toured throughout California and was active in a variety of musical and stage activities. In 1979 Stoneman moved to the Northern California Bay area. It was then after a religious conversion that he began to perform as a gospel artist. Stoneman was the lead singer and songwriter for the locally well known gospel band "The Rhema Band". They toured and were active in California for 8 years. Stoneman also became a prison evangelist and took his message through music to over 32 California prisons and youth correctional facilities. He was a favorite amongst younger inmates because his gospel music was tempered with the urban street sound that they were familiar with. Stoneman has been credited by several gospel dignitaries as being one of the first Gospel Hip-Hop artists. During that time the Rhema Band released one CD that contained songs mostly written by Stoneman. In 1992 Stoneman was hired by The Franchesa Group to run their two music publishing companies (Almaden Valley & Andrew Kingman Publishing). After two years Stoneman decided to go back to his first love. Writing music. He began to build his own demo studio and to submit his music to Publishers. Several of his musical compositions were signed to publishing deals. However they were never published. Stoneman continued to write material for local bands and to record music in the studio. In 2000 Stoneman's song "Findlove.com" came in forth in the R&B category (see www.unisong.com) amongst over 4000 entries in the prestigious Unisong Int'l Songwriting Contest. Since then he has placed in several other songwriting contests and had 17 songs signed to Publishing deals in 2002. He is also scheduled to release his first solo CD in February or March of 2004. With over three hundred copyrighted songs still unsigned, Stoneman continues to write and pitch his work to various music industry contacts. Artist Statement: It was because of pain that I discovered my gift for writing. It is because of the joy and resurrection of God's love in my heart that I continue my personal musical journey. I have had no musical training or instruction. It always just came natural to me. No one taught me how to play or write but the musical abilities just came forth and multiplied themselves. I sing, write and play to a mysterious radio in my head. It turned on one day when I was a child and never stopped playing. I am a slave to it. I must write it all down. This is my calling. I don't expect everyone to like it. Nor do I expect to become a household name. I only hope to have my day of reckoning. My 15 minutes of fame. My place on the Billboard charts. God Willing! Let the music Play The music and vocals displayed on this web page was all written, arranged and produced by Stoneman in his small home recording studio. Often described as a one man band type of writer, Stoneman, thanks you for visiting this page and wishes you all the joys and thrills of your own musical adventures.
