Combining the brash sonic attack and conscientiousness of punk with the accessibility and memorable melodies of pop music, The Banner Year plays a fresh but familiar blend of rock that, while undeniably rooted in the present, wouldn't sound out of place alongside any of the bigger grunge, alternative, pop-punk, or emo acts of the last twenty years. Having performed live with such national acts as the Riddlin' Kids, Say When, and Captain Bringdown & The Buzzkillers, The Banner Year take to the stage their finely-crafted odes to politics, religion, relationships, addiction and frustration and inject them with a dose of humor and a shot of adrenaline to break down the barrier between the audience and the artist. At any given performance, whether for packed houses at the Red Eyed Fly in their hometown of Austin or to a handful of kids in unfamiliar cities, The Banner Year have made a pact to play their hearts out, pouring sweat and pounding beers and interacting with the crowd to make sure that no one goes home unsatisfied or unmoved. After more than three years of writing, performing and recording several limited or unreleased demos and CDs, fall 2007 marks a new beginning for The Banner Year with the self-release of their official debut album "...And Straight On 'Till Breakfast." The release will be coupled with an onslaught of shows in Austin and around Texas throughout the winter and into spring 2008, followed by a national do-it-yourself tour for the better part of the summer. With the sheer amount of passion The Banner Year has for writing, playing, and recording their songs and their dedication to the delicate art of being a successful independent band, no hardships they could endure would ever constitute failure as long as their music and their message is spread.
