ultrasonic began in austin, texas with vocalist and songwriter, Chris Simmons. He migrated from birmingham, alabama to team up with three talented and well known texas musicians to form a group around his idea of music with a solid rock sound, intriguing progressions and lyrical melodies... a sound they could call their own.
these austin musicians, while talented, were splitting their time and dedication among too many other local bands. ultrasonic needed a team of commited members.
Chris turned first to former 'Mars Electric' bandmate, bassist-Carl Hopper. they shared stages across america touring constantly for more than a year. With his roadworn Nikki Sixx Blackbyrd bass and confident backing vocals, Carl was a natural fit for ultrasonic.
Next, Zach Baker joined on guitar. A few years before, he and Carl Hopper had performed extensively throughout the southeast together. A chemistry and established friendship like theirs is a rare prize. His guitar and strong backing vocals easily added another strong link.
Chris and Carl were former Sony/Columbia label mates with drummer Josh Memelo(Union Underground). After searching far and wide for a final member to drive the band, they found him an hour away in San Antonio, TX.
Now, they all reside in austin, tx the live music capital of the world.
ultrasonic music gives you to all the highs and lows... fast and slow and dynamic. "sunday conversation" pulses and pushes the melody from start to finish. jolly love song "julia" and the heartfelt "inside you" exhibit an ability to turn down and just play a nice song. all members are active in the songwriting process and ultrasonic is always writing new music, as well as putting their stamp on some of their favorite cover songs like Queen's "we are the champions". they take their influences and give them back in a unique way that quickly shows them to be in their own corner of the musical world.
